S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Harmony House opened in March 2006. Located right next to the Care Home, Harmony House consists of the first four stories of a newly built high rise condominium. There is a separate elevator and entrance, and the building is wheelchair accessible. A dining room on the ground floor also serves as a multi purpose room. Harmony House primarily serves Chinese residents, but residents of other ethnicities are also welcome. Staff can speak English, Cantonese/Mandarin.
S.U.C.C.E.S.S. is the service provider through a contract arrangement with Vancouver Coastal Health. There are 19 studios and 14 one bedroom suites. Average size of suites ranges from 470 to 589 square ft. All suites are equipped with fridge, a full size range/oven, dishwasher, washer and dryer.
Individual residents pay 70% of after tax income, which covers: 1) monthly rental accommodation, 2) hospitality services - meals, housekeeping, etc., and 3) personal care. Couples living together pay 70% of combined after tax income. Residents on income assistance pay a flat rate. Items that are not included are: telephone, cable, household and toiletry supplies, all medications, personal care supplies, and insurance.
There is meal service in the main dining room at lunch and supper. Chinese meals are served regularly. Emergency response is available 24 hours and staff is always on site. Residents must be able to move around their suite on their own, and make their own way to the dining room with or without mobility aids.
Harmony House cannot admit residents with antisocial and disruptive behaviour which jeopardizes the safety of self and others. If a spouse passes away or is transferred to another facility, the resident will be required to move to an available studio if there is a couple waiting for admission. If care needs change significantly, residents will be assisted with finding alternative arrangements.
