S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Multi-Level Care Society’s Goodwill Ambassador Council hosts 39 performers for Cantonese Opera Charity Extravaganza 2018

September 15, 2018 – Richmond, BC – The S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Multi-Level Care Society’s Goodwill Ambassador Council is excited to announce that 39 members from the Guangdong Yue Theatre from China will be giving two Cantonese opera performances on September 18 and 19, 7 pm to 11 pm, at the Michael J. Fox Theatre in Burnaby. The performances will raise funds for the replacement of an emergency response system at the S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Simon K.Y. Lee Seniors Care Home, expected to cost approximately $200,000.

“The equipment we use in our seniors care programs has a remarkable impact on the safety and quality of service we provide to our residents.” said Queenie Choo, CEO of S.U.C.C.E.S.S. “We are grateful that so many artists from the famous Guangdong Yue Theatre are able to come to support our fundraising initiative to help enhance the safety and quality of care for our seniors. I’d also like to thank the Goodwill Ambassador Council for its continuous support and for demonstrating such a caring spirit for seniors in our community.”

The emergency response system currently in use is 17 years old and is not able to keep up with today’s advanced technology. Staff rely on the system as the primary mode of 24/7 staff-to-staff and residents-to-staff communication. The system ensures the safety of residents by providing emergency peripheral stations for pull cords at the bedside and in bathrooms; it also supports the use of fall prevention hardware such as bed checks and chair checks.

The troupe from the Guangdong Yue Theatre will be in Vancouver from September 15 to 22. On September 17, the artists will visit Kwantlen Polytechnic University in Surrey to introduce the art of Cantonese opera to students. The performance on September 18 will include nine acts of selected episodes from “Famous Dramas” while the September 19 performance will feature the long play “The Legend of Madam White Snake.”
