Community Townhall Encourages Public to Take Action beyond Ballot Box at Provincial Election
Vancouver - In an effort to promote civic engagement and raise awareness of the policy issues affecting Metro Vancouver’s multicultural communities, The Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs (CIJA) and S.U.C.C.E.S.S. are proudly presenting a pre-election community townhall on Sunday, April 2 from 2:30 pm to 4:30 pm at Choi Hall, S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Social Service Centre (28 West Pender Street, Vancouver, B.C.)
“CIJA is delighted to be once again partnering with S.U.C.C.E.S.S on this pre-election townhall,” said Nico Slobinsky, Director Pacific Region with The Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs. “It’s important to note that the townhall is not a debate, but an opportunity to hear candidates address issues of common concern to the communities served by S.U.C.C.E.S.S and CIJA.”
At this townhall we will delve into a variety of topics from affordability, inclusivity, immigration, culturally sensitive care for seniors, transportation and accessibility, to community security. Representatives from the major political parties in BC will have an opportunity to articulate their respective views on the pre-submitted questions in an engaging format.
Representatives of party candidates including 1) Michael Lee, B.C. Liberals candidate (Vancouver-Langara) 2) George Chow, B.C. NDP candidate (Vancouver-Fraserview); and 3) Michael Markwick, Green Party candidate (West Vancouver-Capilano) will be present at the town hall.
The townhall will be moderated by Renu Bakshi, the former CTV news anchor and a senior communications strategist. It will be conducted in English with simultaneous interpretation in both Cantonese and Mandarin for those non-English speaking individuals.
“Civic education is important for long term residents of B.C. and newcomers. This pre-election townhall will help voters make an informed decision on May 9 - the provincial election day,” said Queenie Choo, CEO of S.U.C.C.E.S.S.
