Program Director, Family and Youth Services – Mary Kam
Mary Kam was born in Hong Kong. She obtained a Bachelor in Psychology as well as a Master of Science in Clinical Psychology from the National Taiwan University. She is a Registered Clinical Counsellor. Before joining S.U.C.C.E.S.S, she was a research assistant in the Department of Clinical Psychology of National Taiwan University.
Mary joined S.U.C.C.E.S.S. in 1993 as a Family and Youth Counsellor, providing clinical counseling to immigrant families and youth, coordinating youth groups, delivering family life education workshops, facilitating parenting groups, stress management groups, contributing articles to Chinese newspapers, and providing support to other social service agencies through consultation level. In 2002, Mary took up the Program Manager role for the division. In 2009 she was promoted as the Senior Manager, where she took up leadership role in the division’s continuous quality improvement tasks, responsible for the development of the division’s operation policy, supporting different programs in the division as well as assisting Program Director in the daily operations and development.
Mary had affiliated herself with Warren Shepell Consultant Corporation from 1996 to 2007, providing clinical counseling service for EAP program. In 2004 to 2005, she was the investigator for the project “Multicultural Youth Entry Project” funded by Fraser Family and Children Fund, where she worked with a psychologist to establish a youth model for multicultural immigrant youth.
Mary has continuously upgrading herself with different trainings over these years, such as Changeways, Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) Art and Play Therapy, etc…. In 2009, Mary with Kelly Ng co-wrote an article “CBT – Does it work well with the Chinese population in Vancouver?” and was published on Visions BC’s Mental Health and Addictions Journal. With such an extensive experience, Mary is representing S.U.C.C.E.S.S. in different committees such as Burnaby Early Childhood Development Committee, Burnaby Youth Steering Committee, and Burnaby ECD for Refugee Steering Committee.
