Salary: $21.49 to $27.23/hour (depending on qualifications and experience)

Location: Vancouver, BC

 

About the Position:

The Payroll Clerk is performs a variety of confidential payroll/benefit functions in S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Group.

Reports to: Finance Manager

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Operates computerized payroll systems; processes and balances payrolls in accordance to schedules
  • Processes payroll/benefit information for employees in accordance with appropriate scales, regulations, and authorized deductions. Determines benefit eligibility for employees
  • Calculates and maintains records for all salary placements and increments; calculates, prepares, reconciles payroll for payroll remittances; reconciles payroll deductions to general ledger accounts
  • Prepares or assists in preparation of monthly and annual reports from payroll data for unions, pensions and various government departments
  • Answers payroll/benefit related inquiries from employees, supervisors and outside agencies
  • Enters, maintains and updates employee benefits information online for Benefit Carriers
  • Ensures compliance with federal and provincial regulations and guidelines
  • Maintains payroll operations by following policies and procedures; reports needed changes
  • Keeps abreast of any changes in legislations that impact payroll administration
  • Assists the Finance team to reconcile all payroll accounts including remittance accounts and the payroll register as required
  • Reviews and reconciles annual payroll accounts in preparation for the annual audit; liaise with auditors as required
  • Assists and performs back up duties for other finance staff including general ledger entries, prepare monthly reports to program managers, assisting them in tracking expenses and analyzing
  • Prepares ad-hoc and analytical reports and summaries as required

 

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Diploma/Degree in Accounting or Payroll and Benefits (or equivalent education/experience)
  • Canadian Payroll Association certification
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience with payroll and benefits administration
  • Experience using third-party payroll processing system (e.g. Comvida, Payworks etc)

 

Job Skills and Abilities:

  • Self-starter attitude with well-developed time management skills and the commitment to meeting deadlines
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Intermediate to advanced computer skills (e.g. Excel, Comvida, Payworks, etc.).
  • Excellent problem solving skills
  • Ability to take initiative to improve processes
  • Ability to work independently and cooperatively as a team member
  • Ability to work under time constraints and meet tight deadlines
  • Ability to plan, organize and manage work with minimal supervision and complete number of tasks simultaneously for multiple management staff
  • Ability to understand technical concepts, to act independently and take initiative required to resolve issues
