Salary: $20.88 to $23.49/hour (depending on qualifications and experience)

Location: Surrey/Delta region

 

About the Position:

Deliver outcome-oriented settlement program to IRCC eligible newcomers with a focus on settlement. SUCCESS Settlement Practitioner provides settlement services for seniors, women, men and youth under these components:  a) Needs Assessments and Referrals, b) Information and Orientation, c) Employment Related Services, d) Community Connections and e) Support Services.

Reports to: Settlement Coordinator

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Performs formal review of newcomer needs across a broad spectrum of settlement areas (language, employment, housing, community connections, etc.)
  • Develops Settlement Plan and follow-up support for newcomers based on identified needs and government / professional / business /community services available
  • Refers clients to appropriate employment services as needed e.g. skills training
  • Provides newcomers with client-centred settlement and integration information
  • Delivers one-on-one consultation in-person, by phone and online
  • Liaises with government / professional / business /employers/community services as necessary to ensure the provision of accurate and detailed information to newcomers
  • Plans and implements large and small events
  • Occasionally, performs interpretation for workshop speakers
  • Occasionally, translates resources for newcomers
  • Outreach to newcomers through participating in hiring and community events
  • Supplies up-to-date information to Regional Manager and Settlement Coordinator in respective region regarding changes to settlement information, community services, government departments & procedures
  • Works on improving program service outcomes and day-to-day services to newcomers by participating in professional development as assigned
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by Regional Manager and/or Settlement Coordinator in respective Region

 

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social or Human Sciences
  • Experienced in Working with immigrants and/or refugee clients
  • Knowledge of settlement information/resources and willing to learn
  • Knowledgeable of the geographic area served
  • Experienced in conducting workshops & events
  • Experienced in one-on-one settlement service delivery
  • Demonstrated skills in interpersonal & intercultural communication techniques

 

Job Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong verbal and written English; second language in Mandarin/Cantonese or Arabic languages considered an asset
  • Strong communication (written / verbal) and group facilitation skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Excellent time and resource management skills
  • Able to work independently and as a team
  • Strong computer skills (including internet proficiency)
  • Demonstrated active listening skills
  • Ability to work with individuals and communities facing cultural adjustment challenges
  • Ability to create, and maintain client records and reports
  • Ability to design, promote, deliver and facilitate orientation and education workshops

Other Requirements:

  • Able to travel among regions in the Surrey-Delta regions
  • Able to work at different services locations, when necessary
  • Able to work evenings and weekends
  • Clear Criminal Record Check required
