Title: Facilitator

Program: Skills Training & Employment Program for Older Workers

Nature: Full-time (35 hours per week)

Number of Positions: 1

Salary: $26.50/hour – $28.96/hour

Location: Surrey, BC


About the Position:

The Facilitator is responsible for developing and revising the Program’s training curriculum, facilitating workshops, and providing individual career counselling to older workers. The Facilitator is also responsible for follow up activities and works closely with the Job Developer to ensure clients achieve sustainable employment.

Key Duties and Responsibilities


  • Design and revise workshop curriculum to enhance older workers’ employability (e.g. job search skills, career exploration, life skills, digital literacy skills, essential skills)
  • Facilitate a dynamic and engaging set of workshops for older workers
  • Administer needs assessments and assist clients in developing individualized training action plans
  • Follow up with clients through one-on-one career counselling, referrals to community resources based on needs, as well as the provision of additional client supports
  • Customize client resumes to fit identified opportunities and conduct mock interviews to prepare clients for job interviews
  • Provide job search support and employment connections/opportunities to clients
  • Coordinate and participate in program events to connect clients and employers
  • Ensure all services provided meet service standards, are aligned with best practices, and are consistent with the agency’s philosophy


  • Compile client progress notes in a timely and professional manner
  • Collect data and prepare reports on a monthly basis and when required
  • Collect evaluation feedback from clients and prepare summary and analysis of findings
  • Communicate and outreach with community service providers for marketing and client referrals
  • Participate in the department’s performance and quality improvement (PQI) activities


Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Science, Education, or related discipline. Equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered.
  • Certified Career Development Practitioner (CCDP) designation or demonstrated plan to pursue the CCDP designation an asset
  • Possess Personality Dimension Level 1 Facilitator Certificate an asset
  • 3 or more years of experience in facilitating one or more of the following workshops/group activities: job search, career exploration, life skills, digital literacy, and essential skills
  • Experience in conducting and interpreting client needs assessments
  • Experience in coaching and mentoring clients
  • Experience working with diverse client population groups
  • Experience in working with individuals with employability barriers
  • Experience and knowledge in career counselling

Job Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent knowledge of community resources and services in Metro Vancouver
  • Understanding of systemic barriers to employment particularly among older workers
  • Strong individual and group facilitation skills
  • Thorough and timely documentation, and administrative skills
  • Competent to handle multiple tasks, work stress and deadlines
  • Able to apply an outcomes-based approach in service delivery
  • Able to leverage community resources to support clients
  • Able to guide clients in developing and implementing job search strategies
  • Able to communicate effectively and compassionately with diverse clients
  • Able to adapt to program changes
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to excellence in service delivery
  • Able to work independently and possess strong interpersonal skills
  • Strong computer skills in MS Office Suite


Other Requirements:

  • Able to work on weekends and evenings as required
  • Clear Criminal Record Check required
