About the Position:

Reporting to the Better-At-Home (Hastings-Sunrise) Coordinator, Family and Community Services Division. Under the Hastings-Sunrise Better at Home Program, Better at Home Support Workers will be responsible for providing quality housekeeping services that help older adults enjoy an independent life in their own home longer. All services will be provided in the Hastings-Sunrise neighborhood of Vancouver (located east), within the following boundaries:

  • Nanaimo St. to Boundary Rd.
  • East Broadway to the Burrard Inlet


Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Performs housekeeping tasks including but not limited to: cleaning bedrooms, bathrooms (bath/shower, sink & toilet); laundry support (may include folding & helping put away clean laundry); dusting; kitchen cabinet, stovetop and surface cleaning; washing dishes & stove; cleaning floors (vacuuming, sweeping & mopping); spot cleaning appliances inside and out (fridge, microwave); window cleaning (indoor) and common areas/hallways cleaning.
  • Maintains schedule with senior and reports any changes to the coordinator.
  • Reports to Coordinator any changes in seniors’ condition and perceived adjustment in service needs. Also reports any unsafe conditions in the seniors’ home.
  • Makes contact with senior the evening prior to scheduled appointment to confirm the following day’s visit.
  • Completes and submits timesheets on a bi-weekly basis
  • Performs other related duties as required.


Qualifications and Experience:

  • Experience in working with older adults in a one-to-one capacity.
  • Standard First-Aid and CPR would be an asset.


Job Skills and Abilities:

  • Very reliable with excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Must be able to understand and communicate in English verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to speak another language (such as Cantonese, Mandarin, and Italian) would be an asset.
  • Must be able to work independently with a minimum amount of supervision.
  • Must demonstrate concern and interest in providing quality care to clients.
  • Must have the physical and mental ability to perform required job duties.
  • Punctual and responsible when providing housekeeping services at client’s home.
  • Respectful and conscientious when handling clients’ processions and cleaning equipment (vacuums, mops, etc.)
  • Proficient in managing emails, and using google calendar.


Other Requirements:

  • May be requested to work flexible hours, split shifts.
  • Applicants must be eligible to work in Canada.
  • Clear Criminal Record Check (Vulnerable Sector Check) is required (submitted upon hiring).
