Dennis Chan Elected as S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Chair Vancouver, BC – A new S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Board was elected at its 37th Annual General Meeting today. Mr. Dennis Chan was elected the Chair. "We would like to welcome the new directors,” said Chan. “Each of the new Directors was selected based on their own valuable expertise and unique perspectives. Certainly, we very much look forward to working with them over the coming year to further serve the interests of our members, clients and organization." The current 20 member Board has 5 members of non-Chinese descent, including one of Korean, one of South Asian and three of European origin. All members are outstanding community leaders with professional experience in education, real estate, architects, business, finance, legal, health, human resource and public services. Commenting on the new Board, Tung Chan, CEO of S.U.C.C.E.S.S., said, "We are delighted that the new Board has moved further to reflect both the cultural diversity of the communities that we serve and the variety of expertise that we need. Guided by a leadership team that is focused on principled and vision-driven growth, we aim to fulfill our vision to create a world of multicultural harmony by building bridges, harvesting diversity and fostering integration of Canadians from all backgrounds into the Canadian mosaic."
Tung Chan, who joined S.U.C.C.E.S.S. in 2006, will retire and thus step down from his position on November 1, 2010. According to Tung, when he accepted the assignment, he set out to be in office for three years. Under his leadership, the budget of S.U.C.C.E.S.S. has more than doubled, as the number of offices has increased from 11 to 29.. "The board gratefully acknowledges Tung's immense contributions during the past three-and-a-half years. Indeed, the improvements that he has ushered in will continue to provide substantial benefits for this organization, its clients and its members for many years to come,” said Dennis Chan. “We wish him all the best with his retirement." 1 (one ) backgrounder attached Dennis Chan, new Chair of S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Mr. Dennis Chan joined the S.U.C.C.E.S.S. board in 2004 and served as Vice Chair from 2008-2009. He currently serves as the Chair. Professionally, he is a director engaged in Business Management and Supplier Relations at the Ministry of Health Services, Government of British Columbia. Despite having grown up in Vancouver, his previous employment involved working for the Florida and Hong Kong offices of Franklin Templeton on the corporate treasury and emerging markets teams, respectively. His previous social service experiences have been in the fields of healthcare and microfinance. Mr. Chan holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Western Ontario, a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Hong Kong and a Master of Laws from Georgetown University. He is also licensed to practise law in the State of New York. |
