2010 S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Cantonese Opera Charity Show

Vancouver, BC – Betty Funston, Chair of the 2010 S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Cantonese Opera Charity Show, officially welcomed the two renowned Hong Kong Cantonese opera artists Mr. Ng Chin Fung and Ms. Wan Fai Yin as the headliners of the S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Cantonese Opera Charity Show taking place on Saturday, August 28, 2010 at The Centre in Vancouver for Performing Arts.

"This is the first Cantonese opera fundraising event organized by S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Foundation and we are extremely honoured to have Mr. Ng Chin Fung and Ms. Wan Fai Yin fly all the way from Hong Kong to support and perform at the event,” said Betty Funston. “Their performance will no doubt be the highlight of the evening.”

Ng Chin Fung and Wan Fai Yin along with 6 seasoned Cantonese opera performers, 2 are Hong Kong based, John Lau and Lanzy Choy, and 4 are local, Lucy Ma, Alice Choi, Annie Wong and Cindy Pang,  will perform six acts of classic Cantonese opera duets, comparable to duets from notable Italian operas such as La Traviata and Aida.

As a feature to enhance the enjoyment of the show, Lanzy Choy, in addition to performing, has deftly translated librettos of the six duets into English.  The evening’s performances will be entirely captioned in both English and Chinese.

"Cantonese operas are vastly popular among Chinese communities in Metro Vancouver, and we are glad to bring this traditional art form to audiences of different cultures,” said Maggie Ip, Chair of S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Foundation.

Proceeds from this benefit show will go towards development and maintenance of essential S.U.C.C.E.S.S. senior programs and services, including one of S.U.C.C.E.S.S.’s treasures the “Evergreen News.”

Tickets are $28, $40, and $60 ($108 and $80 tickets are sold out), and are available at the S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Pender Office.  For ticket reservations or more information, contact S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Foundation at 604-408-7228.
