Sailors and Songs Naval Centennial Concert In Vancouver

VANCOUVER, BC.  – The Naden Band of Maritime Forces Pacific, Canada’s Pacific Naval Fleet Band, will perform Sailors and Songs, a musical tribute to the Canadian Naval Centennial at 8:00 p.m., Sep 20 at the Gateway Theatre, Richmond.  Tickets are $18 and are available in advance at the box office and S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Foundation.  Proceeds of the concert will support the S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Foundation and the Chinese Canadian Military Museum.  Directed by navy Lt. Robert Byrne, the Naden Band is a 35-member professional-concert band that is touring Western Canada to bring the Navy to Canadians during the Navy’s Centennial Year.

Inspired by the Meet the Navy musical review produced during the Second World War, the Sailors and Songs musical repertoire covers the birth of Canada’s Navy; its early success through World War I; its coming of age as the third largest navy in the world during the battles, Battle of the Atlantic and St. Lawrence River in the Second World War; standing on guard through the Cold War; current operations on behalf of Canada; and meeting the challenges of the future on Canada’s three ocean frontiers.

The program includes selections by guest vocalists Stephanie Greaves and Ken Lavigne of Victoria, B.C.  Stephanie Greaves is an accomplished popular singer well known in Victoria and the Lower Mainland of B.C. A lyrical tenor, Ken Lavigne performed his Carnegie Hall debut in New York City last year.

Vintage photography enhances the musical program that will satisfy a variety of musical tastes.  The audience will experience the story of the Canadian Navy through stirring and exhilarating music and exciting and poignant images. Sailors and Songs will perform in 50 locations to entertain Canadians in communities from coast to coast in celebration of the Canadian Naval Centennial.

The S.U.C.C.E.S.S.  Foundation, incorporated in 2001, is a charitable foundation responsible for raising funds for S.U.C.C.E.S.S. and its affiliated organizations to support their mandates for the betterment of the community. For more details, please visit http://www.successfoundation.ca.
