S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Cantonese Opera Show to Raise Funds for the Seniors

Vancouver, British Columbia – Betty Funston, Chair of the 2010 S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Cantonese Opera Charity Show, is proud to announce S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Foundation will be holding its first ever Cantonese Opera fundraising event on Saturday, August 28 at The Centre in Vancouver for Performing Arts.

This one night only benefit show is targeted to raise $30,000 to benefit essential S.U.C.C.E.S.S. senior programs and services, including one of S.U.C.C.E.S.S.’ treasures the “Evergreen News.”

Headlined by two renowned Hong Kong Cantonese Opera artists, Ng Chin Fung and Wan Fai Yin, and flanked by 6 seasoned performers, 2 Hong Kong based, John Lau and Lanzy Choy, and 4 local, Lucy Ma, Alice Choi, Annie Wong and Cindy Pang, the show consists of six acts of classic Cantonese Opera duets, comparable to duets from notable Italian operas such as La Traviata, Aida and Carmen.

As a feature to enhance the enjoyment of the audience, Lanzy Choi, in addition to performing in the show, has deftly translated the six duets into English.  The evening’s performances will be entirely captioned in both English and Chinese.

Maggie Ip, Chair of S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Foundation, thanked Mr. Ng. Chin Fung and Ms. Wan Fai Yin, for traveling from Hong Kong to lend support to S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Foundation.

In a pre-recorded video message, Mr. Ng. and Ms. Wan, expressed their eagerness to support S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Foundation and anticipation to perform in one of the grandest theatre venue in Vancouver.

Cantonese Opera is a traditional Chinese art form that involves music, singing, martial arts, acrobatics, and acting.  Cantonese Opera plays tell stories about Chinese history, traditions, culture, and philosophies.  It was just a matter of time until S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Foundation adds Cantonese Opera shows into the roster of their annual fundraising events, which includes the Fundraising Gala, Walk with the Dragon and Charity Golf Tournament.

Tickets are $28, $40, $60, $80, and $108, and available at the S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Pender Office.  For ticket reservations or more information, contact S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Foundation at 604-408-7228.

S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Foundation, incorporated in December 2001, is a charitable foundation responsible for raising funds for S.U.C.C.E.S.S. and its affiliated organizations to support their mandates for the betterment of the community. For more details, please visit: www.successfoundation.ca
