FEATURE RELEASE S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Wins Tri-Cities Champion Group Award Tri-Cities, BC – On May 6th S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Multicultural Family Resource Program was named as the Champion Group Winner from the Tri-Cities Early Childhood Development Committee. The committee nominated the program because they “truly help build a strong and supported community” for newcomer families. The Award was accepted by Kelly Ng, Program Director on behalf of the Multicultural Early Childhood Development Team. The S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Multicultural Family Resource Program is designed to help families understand cultural differences, improve their parenting skills and build relationships with other families. The program’s accessibility and informative responses to parents’ has helped reduced isolation for many families and encourages them to connect to their new community. Dan Bibby, Community Services Manager, Ministry of Children and Family Development, said “The work that the multi-cultural, multi-lingual team does with the newcomer and immigrant community is truly worthy of being acknowledged as our Champion Group Winner!” Coquitlam Centre was presented with the Business Champion Award of Excellence. Coquitlam Centre organized a large number of activities to support families across the Tri-Cities as well as worked with the Libraries to host storytimes, offer a “Runners and Booties” program for parents with young babies, co-sponsor monthly Family Play and Learn Events, and donate extensively to community events. Gloria Aitken was named as the Individual Champion Award Winner. Aitken has worked at the Port Coquitlam Happy Times Preschool for over 25 years and has an incredible reputation with her staff and the families she supports. One of Gloria’s gifts is her ability to build rapport with families and their children and her willingness to adapt her program to what is best for the child.
