FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE New Immigrant Arrivals Increase by 11% during the 1st Quarter of 2010 Vancouver, BC – Community Airport Newcomers Network (C.A.N.N.) recently released the first quarterly report of 2010 which showed that a total of 9,865 new immigrants were received at Vancouver International Airport during the first three months of the year. According to the C.A.N.N. statistical report, the total number of immigrants grew by 11% in this quarter compared to the same period last year. Provincial Nominee and Skilled Worker immigrant arrivals also grew. In contrast, the number clients arriving under the Live-In Caregiver class declined this quarter. China ranked number one as the leading source country of arrivals followed by the Philippines, India, Korea and Taiwan. Sixty-two percent of the immigrants from the Philippines were destined to the Prairie Provinces. This quarter, the top source country of refugees was Iraq, followed by Myanmar and Iran. C.A.N.N. is a pre-settlement program at the Vancouver International Airport that offers assistance to newly arrived immigrants and refugees to Canada. The program is funded by Citizenship and Immigration Canada and its services are provided by S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Please refer to the attached C.A.N.N. report for more details.
