MEDIA ADVISORY VETERANS TO BE HONOURED FOR SERVICE IN AFGHANISTAN
On Monday, April 12, 2010, Lyall Knott, Honourary Captain, Canadian Fleet Pacific and senior partner with the Vancouver law firm of Clark Wilson, and Phil Chicola, the Consul General of the United States, will hold a press conference, hosted by S.U.C.C.E.S.S., to announce the 2010 Afghan veterans reception on April 14th. In 2009, Knott and Chicola decided more should be done to honour the ongoing service of Canada’s military and their families. They created a successful community-based recognition celebration that attracted more than 500 people, including 110 Canadian Afghan veterans. The April 14th event will feature Honourable Steven Point, Lieutenant Governor of BC, Honourable Stockwell Day, President of the Treasury Board and Minister for the Asia-Pacific Gateway, Brigadier General John Vance, Rear-Admiral Tyrone Pile, Joseph Segal, Maureen Eykelenboom, mother of deceased veteran Andrew “Boomer” Eykelenboom, and more than 100 BC Afghan veterans. On Monday, Chinese-speaking members of Canada’s military forces will also be on hand for interviews.
