CEO OF S.U.C.C.E.S.S. ANNOUNCES HIS RETIREMENT
VANCOUVER, B.C. – Peter Kwok, Chair of the S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Board of Directors, announced today that CEO Tung Chan is retiring from S.U.C.C.E.S.S. (effective November 1, 2010). “This is really my second try at retirement,” said Chan who took over the leadership of S.U.C.C.E.S.S. in 2006 after retiring from a 28-year career with the TD Bank. “At that time, I committed to a three-year tenure and now I’ve been here close to four years. Many of the goals I set for myself and the organization have been achieved so it is time for S.U.C.C.E.S.S. to move forward once again with a new leader.” Chan says he has enjoyed his time with S.U.C.C.E.S.S. and is proud of the many accomplishments the team of employees, volunteers and Board members has produced over the past three-and-a-half years. When Chan joined S.U.C.C.E.S.S. in 2006, the annual budget was more than $16 million. Today a yearly budget of $36 million supports 29 offices in B.C. (Metro Vancouver, Abbotsford and Fort St. John) and in Asia – including Shanghai, Taipei and Seoul. In making the announcement today, the Board Chair highlighted some of Chan’s successes, including:
Kwok added that Chan has been relentless in pushing for better and more consistent recognition of new immigrants’ international credentials. After retirement, Chan intends to spend time with his family and do some travelling. He also plans to continue with his various Board commitments and community involvement. During a special announcement with employees, Chan thanked everyone who has been part of S.U.C.C.E.S.S.’ growth -- not only during his three-and-a-half years as CEO, but from the time S.U.C.C.E.S.S. was established in 1973. “I also want to recognize and express my appreciation to this entire team which has made my job so much easier in every way,” says Chan. The Board plans to engage an executive search firm to conduct an international search for a new CEO. Founded in 1973, S.U.C.C.E.S.S. is one of the largest social service providers in Canada with 25 service locations in British Columbia and 4 overseas offices.
