For Immediate Release Health Fair- Medical Advances 2007 September 28, 2007 Vancouver, BC – S.U.C.C.E.S.S. and Chinese Canadian Medical Association (BC) jointly hosted a press conference to announce the details of upcoming Health Fair- Medical Advances 2007 on Oct. 7, 2007. “Health Fair” is an annual event organized by S.U.C.C.E.S.S. since 1991. It aims to increase awareness and further understanding of various health issues for the Chinese-Canadian Community. Last year, the event successfully attracted more than 2500 people. “Health Fair 2007” will be jointly held by Chinese Canadian Medical Society B.C. (CCMCBC) and S.U.C.C.E.S.S. and supported by BC Cancer Agency and BC Cancer Foundation, Canadian Cancer Society, Canadian Diabetes Association, Chinese Canadian Dental Society B.C. and the Heart and Stroke Foundation B.C. & Yukon Division. Dr. Susan Kwan, a Director of S.U.C.C.E.S.S. and Co-Chair of Health Fair 2007 said the event was to ensure that the Chinese communities in Greater Vancouver have to access to latest health information in their language. “Health is a very important part of our lives. If we know how to take good care of ourselves, we can save a lot of money on medical expenses. The annual Health Fair is an excellent opportunity to promote health awareness in the communities, especially the Chinese community. Educating the public on various health problems will lead to prevention,” Dr. Chan also said. According to Dr. Jessica Chan, a director of CCMCBC and another Co-Chair of Health Fair 2007, CCMCBC has been the major partner of this event over the past 15 years. “We have invited medical specialists to share with participants different health topics such as common eye diseases, neurology, cardiology, geriatric medicine, urology, menopause, and cancer prevention through 20 lectures and 5 workshops in Cantonese or Mandarin,” Dr. Chan said. A number of on-site health screenings will be available to the public on first come first served basis. Health screening stations will include dental screening, oral cancer screening, diabetes counseling, blood sugar testing, blood pressure testing and weight and waist circumference measurement. Also, there will be more than 30 booth set up by different non-profit health agencies. Fair participants will be rewarded a “Passport to Health” incentive program for the booth exhibition they visit. “We receive zero funding from the government for this high-profile annual initiative. S.U.C.C.E.S.S. is committed to increase awareness and promote disease prevention. Our Health and Wellness Centre has been organizing regular health workshops and programs for the public and we will continue to do so,” said Tung Chan, CEO of S.U.C.C.E.S.S.
