New Vocational Training at S.U.C.C.E.S.S. hit 95% success rate

Vancouver, B.C. - A new and unique health vocational training program, the Resident Care Attendant (RCA), started a year ago by Canada Vocational Academy, a subsidiary of S.U.C.C.E.S.S., has been able to find jobs for their graduates at 95% success rate.

The third class of 10 graduates had their graduation ceremony on Friday, Nov. 13, 2009 held at the S.U.C.C.E.S. Service Centre.  They started their full-time study almost 6 months ago.  They entered the program knowing that it would be their first step into the health industry, and that the employment prospect is very good.  This has been borne out by recent employment record of their previous class graduates.

“I am very pleased,” commented Estina Wan, Director of Health Programs at the Academy. “virtually 100% of our past graduates have been able to get employment in this area if they want to.  Statistically it is 95% because some graduates continue to study and some got employment in other areas.”

“When we started the program,” said Randy Wong, CEO of the Academy who is a seasoned health and education executive, “our objective is to provide a practical path for new immigrants who are faced with numerous problems in entering the health care field in Canada.  This RCA program has achieved it effectively, and we are able to supply the community with high-quality health care attendants.”

Graduates, including a few from the newly graduated class, received employment from government and recognized home care services, as well as nursing homes in the Lower Mainland.  The program is developed according to the guidelines of the B.C. government and is registered with the PCTIA, the body that regulates training institutions. The Academy’s certificate is recognized widely in B.C. and across the country.

Work will include taking care of patients in long term care institutions, and people in their own homes.  Duties in the latter case will include everything from keeping company to bathing and exercising residents, to medical administration under nursing supervision.

The Academy operates a full-time day class, and a part-time night class.  Each class is kept very small, about a dozen students, to keep individual attention at the highest. The training lasts 6 to 9 months, including 2 months of practicum training.

The Canada Vocational Academy is formed as part of a social enterprise initiative of S.U.C.C.E.S.S.  It is operated by the Canada Social Enterprises Inc., an entity charged with carrying out these initiatives.

“We are very proud,” said Tung Chan, CEO of S.U.C.C.E.S.S., “that the first step of our dream is realized in such a short time. There will be more social initiatives that will benefit our communities.”

The next class of the Academy will start in January 2010.  A free information session will be held on November 26th.  For enquires and registration to the free session, please call 604-270-1891.

Founded in 1973, S.U.C.C.E.S.S. is now one of the largest social service providers in British Columbia with over 20 locations and 2 overseas offices.

The Canada Social Enterprises Inc. was formed in 2008 as a S.U.C.C.E.S.S. subsidiary charged to carry out social enterprising initiatives. It operates the Canada Vocational Academy which started its first RCA class in January, 2009.

The Academy is registered with the PCTIA, the Private Career Training Institutions Agency of BC. The course is developed according to guidelines of the BC government.
