S.U.C.C.E.S.S.
- A World of Multicultural Harmony –

We are a group of three registered charities and two limited liability social enterprises. We are driven by our vision of a world of multicultural harmony and we focus our mission to build bridges, harvest diversity and foster integration through service and advocacy.  Our actions are guided by our value of caring, open, respect, ethical, integrity, inclusive and innovative.

S.U.C.C.E.S.S., our primary service delivery entity, was founded in 1973 and incorporated in 1974 as a non-profit charitable organization.  Initially founded to assist new Canadians of Chinese descent to overcome language and cultural barriers, S.U.C.C.E.S.S. has evolved into a multicultural, multi-service agency assisting people at all stages of their Canadian experience.

Today, the organization is recognized as one of British Columbia’s largest social service providers.  With over 20 locations, S.U.C.C.E.S.S. proudly services local communities in Greater Vancouver, Fort St. John and overseas in Taipei, Taiwan and Seoul, Korea.  Through advocacy, S.U.C.C.E.S.S. is also recognized as a prominent voice of positive social change.

Guided by policies envisioned by a board of volunteer directors elected by the membership, over 400 professional staff and 2,000 volunteers deliver a multitude of services in the areas of settlement, employment, health and housing as well as business, economic, community and social development.

S.U.C.C.E.S.S. and S.U.C.C.E.S.S. MLC Society are governed by a policy board composed of twenty dedicated volunteer directors elected by membership. Guided by polices set by the board and led by the CEO, over 100 programs were offered by about 400 professional staff and more than 2,000 active volunteers. In 2007-08, we delivered about 170,000 client-services and served more than 180,000 participants in events and activities. We also provided care service to 103 residents in the seniors care home, 83 residents in two assisted living residences and 120 clients in adult day centre, and delivered 32,868 meals-on-wheels in the same year. For effective service delivery and clients’ accessibility, we provide services in 20 locations in the Lower Mainland, one in Fort St. John and 2 overseas offices in Taipei and Seoul.

We have a combined budget of $30 million, approximately 80% of which comes from grants of three levels of government.  The remaining funds are raised from the community through donations, fundraising activities, corporate sponsorships, membership dues and cost recovery programs. Annually, S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Foundation, under the leadership of its committed board members, holds three major fundraising events – the Gala Dinner, Walk with the Dragon and Charity Golf Tournament – to raise substantial funds to support non-funded or under-funded programs.

Significant efforts are taken to strengthen the long-term financial stability of services. In 2007, the Legacy Program was launched to facilitate continuing donors’ legacy by the creation of named endowment funds. Canada Social Enterprises Inc. – a wholly owned subsidiary of S.U.C.C.E.S.S. – was formed to deliver programs of good social value to generate revenue. In 2008, S.U.C.C.E.S.S. assumed full ownership of Sustainable Employment Network Inc. (SENI) – a social enterprise delivering self employment services to people with disabilities.

We contribute extensively to government consultation on policy and service issues, participate in sectoral committee work, advocate for positive policy changes, and coordinate community support in emergencies. Over the years, we have earned widespread public recognition for our service and contribution. Since 2004, S.U.C.C.E.S.S. and S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Multi-Level Care Society have been accredited by Council on Accreditation (COA) and the Canadian Council on Health Services Accreditation (CCHSA) respectively for our accomplishment of excellent quality in organization and service delivery.
