Prelude to the 2009 S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Walk with the Dragon
Dragon Idol and Martial Arts Expo

Vancouver – Today, Ricky Wu, Co-Chair of the 2009 S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Walk with the Dragon, officially announced that by popular demand, the S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Dragon Idol competition returns for the third year.
The Dragon Idol competition was introduced in 2007 as a prelude and companion event to the annual S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Walk with the Dragon to raise the awareness of the Walk and at the same time cultivate talents from the local communities. The annual Walk is one of the largest community based fundraising events held in Vancouver’s scenic Stanley Park.  Proceeds from the Walk are earmarked for maintaining and enhancing essential social services for those in needs in the communities.

Dragon Idol Entry Forms are accepted until June 11. To enter, individuals or groups simply collect $100 in pledges for the Walk and submit the pledges along with the entry form to S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Foundation.  The Dragon Idol semi-final is slated to take place on Sunday, June 21 at Aberdeen Centre, Richmond.  The Final Competition will be held on Sunday, July 19 at Lumbermen’s Arch, Stanley Park during Walk with the Dragon.

“This year the Dragon Idol competition is concentrated on the vocal talent. TWO finalists will be chosen at the semi-final to vie for the distinction of the 2009 S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Dragon Idol Champion,” Clara Chow, Co-Chair of the 2009 S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Dragon Idol informed the media.

“The 2009 S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Dragon could not be possible without the support and encouragement from our sponsors and planning committee members,” said Hans Wong, the other Co-Chair of the 2009 Dragon Idol.

Vivian Tse, 2008 S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Dragon Idol Champion, shared her experience from contestant to Idol Champion.

Kenneth Kwan and Fred Kwok, Co-Chairs of the Martial Arts Expo, introduced the Expo as another prelude event to raise the awareness of the Walk.  Co-organized by S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Foundation and the Confederation of Canadian Wushu Organizations, and supported by the Smart Group Cultural and Education Foundation, the Expo will take place on Sunday, July 12 at The Centre in Vancouver for the Performing Arts.

The S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Foundation, incorporated in December 2001, is a charitable foundation responsible for raising funds for S.U.C.C.E.S.S. and its affiliated organizations to support their mandates for the betterment of the community.
