January 30, 2007 Foreign Credential Recognition (FCR) has been identified as one of the key components of the government's Internationally Trained Workers Initiatives. To address this initiative, S.U.C.C.E.S.S. had taken the leadership to organize a Foreign Credential Recognition (FCR) Forum involving the public and the government into a direct dialogue. The Forum was held successfully on January 24, 2007 (Wednesday) at S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Social Service Centre, Vancouver, with around 200 participants. During the Forum, participants representing immigrants, government officials, immigrant service organizations, regulatory bodies and the media were introduced to success stories of new Canadians integrating into their profession. Government officials were also invited to introduce their initiatives to facilitate Canadians' labor market integration. Group discussions were arranged for participants to propose new strategies to help new Canadians. Pre-Forum Release
Press Release is available in Post-Forum Release
S.U.C.C.E.S.S. strives to support New Canadians by bridging the gap between the booming BC economy and the persistent labour market integration barriers. Beyond the Forum, S.U.C.C.E.S.S. will pursue further dialogues with regulatory bodies and government officials to create a unique BC Strategy to address the FCR issues.
We would like to take this opportunity to convey our thanks to the panelists in offering their successful stories and integration experience. Special thanks to the government officials in sharing the new FCR initiatives. With consents from all speakers, we are pleased to share the Forum presentations.
Media clipping: In addressing the shortages of skilled labour in Canada, S.U.C.C.E.S.S. had been proactively taking the initiatives in developing strategic reports to the government, industry groups and professional associations. In 2002, S.U.C.C.E.S.S. published an important report, Enhancing the Participation of Immigrants in British Columbia's Economy and Labour Market: A Chinese Canadian Workforce Strategy providing an overview of immigration trends and development in the recent years. This report showed an increasing level of immigration in BC and an increasing level of competition for such human resources within and outside Canada.
