Health Fair 2008: Project Give Life is supported by the City of Burnaby and BC Transplant as part of the “Project Give Life” campaign. “Life is important. Our goal is simple. According to BC Transplant, 16% of the population in BC has registered as an organ donor. In 2007, 150 transplants were made from the deceased with 15 from Chinese (10%) while 12 of 112 living donors were from Chinese (10.7%). As a tradition of the event, medical specialists will be invited to share their advices with participants on such health topics as Hepatitis B, liver transplantation, renal disease, bone marrow transplant, diabetes, hypertension and arthritis through 12 lectures and 4 workshops in Cantonese and Mandarin. A number of on-site health screenings will be available to the public on first come first served basis. Health stations include diabetes counseling, screenings for dental, oral cancer, blood pressure, blood sugar, weight and waist circumference measurement. Exhibitions from more than 40 health agencies will be also available on site. Health Fair participants will be rewarded a “Passport to Health” incentive program for the booth exhibitions they visit.
