Overview of Immigrant Trades Training Initiative (ITTI) Project

In British Columbia there are over 130 regulated trades, including carpenters, electricians, plumbers and welders; as well as bakers, cooks hairdressers and horticulturalists etc.

The Immigrant Trades Training Initiative (ITTI) is an Industry Training Authority (ITA) funded pilot project that assists immigrants in attaining recognized certification in the trades. The mission of ITTI is to inform, guide and support participants in choosing and accessing the appropriate resources and services to meet their goals.  ITTI benefits participants by establishing a Trades Action Plan (TAP) and supporting progress towards ITA recognized trade certification.  The mission of this project is to inform and guide participants in choosing and accessing appropriate resources and services to meet their goals.

The pilot project works to:
1) Assess individual challenges and determine appropriate actions needed to obtain ITA recognized certification.
2) Develop a Trades Action Plan (TAP) that provides a path to trade certification and suggests a career path.
3) Provide ongoing support in utilizing effective strategies to identify and access available resources.
4) Offer limited financial support to overcome specific challenges.
5) Able to offer flexible strategies to effectively assist individual participants.

Eligible participants are required to be either:
