UBC Law Students’ Legal Advice Program (LSLAP)
UBC Law Students’ Legal Advice Program (LSLAP) is run by UBC law students who volunteer their time to offer a free legal clinic for people who cannot afford legal aid. They provide this invaluable service by serving about 4,000-5,000 people annually. Student staffed clinics are in Vancouver, North Vancouver, Burnaby, Coquitlam, New Westminster, Surrey, Richmond and Langley.
Effective Jan 24th, 2011, LSLAP runs a fall clinic at the S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Social Service Centre, 28 West Pender Street, on every Monday. Every consultation is half an hour. Please note that there are some law students available who speak Cantonese or Mandarin.
Areas of law covered:
• Criminal (summary convictions, no driving charges, no previous criminal record)
• Small claims
• Residential tenancies (for the tenant)
• WCB, EI CPP, social assistance, B.C. benefits
• Wills and estates (no real estate property)
• Consumer transactions
• Employer to employee, human rights
• Criminal injury compensation
Areas not covered:
• Family Law
• Uncontested Divorce
• Real estate matters
• Personal Injury, malpractice
• BC Supreme Court or federal court
• Immigration
