Chinese Meals on Wheels for Vancouver and Richmond

Since October 2003, S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Simon K.Y. Lee Seniors Care Home, in partnership with the Health & Home Care Society of B.C. (formerly the Victorian Order of Nurses), a non-profit organization, has been preparing hot and nutritious meals every weekday to the Chinese community in Vancouver and Richmond.  The meals are delivered by a team of Chinese speaking volunteers through the Health & Home Care Society of B.C.  Volunteers also make friendly visits and provide informal checks on the safety of meal recipients.  Anyone who has difficulty shopping or preparing well balanced meals can benefit from this program.  Since its  inception, meal orders have increased from 30 to 100 a day.

Home style hot meals:

  • include fish, pork, beef, chicken or tofu served with steamed rice and Chinese soup
  • are monitored by a dietician
  • have a minimum amount of salt, oil and spices, and no MSG
  • follow a 4 week rotation menu

This program relies on:

  • the dedication of volunteers to pick up and deliver meals
  • donations from the community to subsidize costs for those who cannot afford the meals

The Health & Home Care Society of BC previously known as VON, is a charitable not-for-profit organization.
